  • 22 Jun - The chapter proudly participated in a special evening event at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, where 5 chapter compatriots hosted an informational table on the Estate’s historic Bowling Green. The team enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Mount Vernon members, sharing the mission and legacy of the Sons of the American Revolution in a setting rich with patriotic heritage.  
  • 14 Jun - Host chapter for National SAR Event to Commemorate Flag Day and the Army 250th Anniversary starting at George Washington's Mount Vernon, then onto the National Museum of the United States Army, and ending with a Dinner Gala with George Washington at The Westin Alexandria Old Town. More than 150 SAR, DAR and C.A.R. attendees from at least 15 states in partnership with the American Legion and Association of the United States Army (AUSA).

    May 2025

    • 26 May - Chapter hosts the SAR participation in the National Memorial Day Parade held along the National Mall in Washington, DC. 

      Dr. Darryl Addington, is slated to join us this year in the National Memorial Day Parade as is GW Chapter's very own, National SAR Secretary General, Michael Elston, and National SAR Color Guard Commander, Scott Collins.

      We also have confirmations from National C.A.R. President, Reese Holmes, Virginia C.A.R. President, Meredith Hopkins, as well as Virginia SAR President, Dr. Michael Weyler.

      In the evening, Chapter president Scot Bryant hosted a small gathering of compatriots for dinner with PG Addington and wife Mary, at The Westin Alexandria Old Town.

    • 10 May - Chapter Meeting held at Belle Haven Country Club; 31 members and guests attended. Guest Speaker: John Grady speaks about the Birth of the US Army.
    • 03 May - Chapter President Bryant and Historian Roth presented the chapter wreath and attended the 250th Anniversary of The Gunpowder Incident. The event is a Virginia SAR Presidential Initiative Event for "Virginia in 1775".  The event is the 1st event designated for eligibility for the Road to Virginia's Independence Medal.

    April 2025

    • 28 Apr - Chapter President Bryant and Historian Roth presented the chapter wreath and attended the 267th Birthday Commemoration of President James Monroe. The event was held at the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia, a sponsored by James Monroe Memorial Foundation.
    • 24 Apr - Law Enforcement Medal Presentation, Fairfax County Police, Mt. Vernon Station, Va.  Chapter President Bryant and Public Service & Heroism Committee Chairman John Blair participated in the ceremony.
    • 12 Apr – Chapter Meeting held at Belle Haven Country Club; 25 members and guests attended. Guest Speaker: More Perfect CEO & former White House Domestic Policy Director John Bridgeland (pictured right) speaks about national service and American Renewal Goals. John “Bridge” Bridgeland is a 15year SAR compatriot and descendant of Capt. Joshua Whitcomb, New Hampshire Militia. And, soon-to-be our chapter’s latest dual member! Jeff McCoy, ROTC Committee Chair (left), introduced Cadet Capt. Aric Peters and his father Ryan Peters to chapter members. After Cadet Peters presented his essay, then Scot Bryant presented Cadet Peters with the chapter’s JROTC Enhanced Cadet Program award including medallion and scholarship fund.
    • 02 Apr – Public Safety & Heroism Committee Chair John Blair presented Public Safety award at Old Fairfax Courthouse in Fairfax, Va.

      March 2025

      • 31 Mar – Compatriot Grave Marking Cemetery at Arlington National Cemetery honoring Wendell E. "Jack" Shawn, Jr., who passed away: age 100 years old.
      • 23 Mar – 250th Anniversary and Commemoration of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech at Historic St. John’s Church, Richmond, Va. Several members in virtual attendance via YouTube Livestream.
      • 16 Mar – Chapter wreath laid at Commemoration of the 274th Anniversary of President James Madison’s Birthday held at Montpelier. Presented by John Blair.
      • 16 Mar – ____ attended the Commemoration of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech at St. John’s Church, Richmond, Va.
      • 16 Mar – Grave Marking Ceremony at Historic St. Johns Church cemetery honoring Colonel Edward Carrington. Attended by: ____
      • 15 Mar – Chapter wreath laid at Commemoration of Colonel William Grayson at Grayson Tomb (Woodbridge, Va.); presented by chapter president Scot Bryant.
      • 14 Mar – Chapter wreath laid at 244th Commemoration of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (Greensboro, NC); presented by past chapter and state president Lorance Lisle.
      • 08 Mar – Chapter Meeting held at Belle Haven Country Club; 26 members and guests attended. Guest Speaker Tim Rose, Alexandria History Tours presented. One new member was inducted, and one transfer member welcomed.

      February 2025

      • 28 Feb – Chapter officers and members attended the National SAR Spring Leadership Meeting in Louisville, Ky.
      • 22 Feb -  The chapter proudly participated in a special daytime event at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, where 7 chapter compatriots hosted an informational outreach table at the Ford Orientation Center. The team enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Mount Vernon visitors, sharing the mission and legacy of the Sons of the American Revolution in a setting rich with patriotic heritage.
      • 15 Feb – Wreath laying and sponsor with DAR at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider of the American Revolution, held at Old Presbyterian Meeting House Burial Ground. Compatriot Paul McCombs was awarded Certificate of Appreciation from Color Guard Commander Brett Osborn as the 2024 Virginia SAR Northern Region Color Guardsman of the Year
      • 15 Feb – Served as Silver Sponsor and SAR Host at the George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade in Alexandria, Va.  Awarded 1st place in two categories: Honor Guards and Color Guards; and Spirit of Washington; and 2nd place in Historical Units.
      • 15 Feb – Chapter wreath laid at 244th Commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan (South Boston, Va.) as presented by past chapter and state president Lorance Lisle.
      • 07 to 08 Feb – Chapter officers and compatriots attended the 2025 Virginia SAR Annual Meeting in Glen Allen, Va.
        • Chapter awards included: 2024 Best Chapter (very large chapter category), 2024 Virginia Society Cup First Place (very large chapter), 2024 Chapter Excellence Award, 2024 Donald W. Baldwin Award, 2024 John Blair Award, and 2024 Sponsor, Best Law Enforcement Person of the Year. 
        • Individual award recipients included: Tom Roth and Scott Walker awarded the State Roger Sherman Commendation Medal (Silver); David Harrity and Dave Thomas awarded the State Henry Knox Achievement Medal (Silver); Scot Bryant awarded the Virginia Society Medal along with the award as webmaster for the chapter website awarded as Virginia SAR’s Best Chapter Website.

      • 04 Feb – As approved by the chapter BOM, Acting Communications Coordinator (David Harrity) created the chapter’s first public Facebook Page at https://facebook.com/georgewashingtonchaptervirginiasar

      • 29 Jan – Compatriot David Harrity presented a virtual workshop entitled, Web and Social Media Outreach, as part of the 2025 Virginia SAR Annual Meeting.

          Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution
          &
          George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade

          ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Feb. 15, 2025)—A joint SAR–DAR wreath laying ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House Burial Ground, following by the 2025 George Washington Birthday Parade, held in downtown Alexandria.

          Wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider of the American RevolutionMore than 50 attendees braved the rain during the wreath laying ceremony and parade including newly inducted Virginia SAR President Michael Weyler, along with Virginia Society Children of the American Revolution (V.S.C.A.R.) State President Sarah Terpenning, SAR Secretary General Michael J. Elston, Virginia SAR Color Guard Commander Brett Osborn flanked by the Virginia SAR Color Guard in colonial attire, with numerous SAR chapter officers and compatriots from George Washington Chapter, George Mason Chapter, Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Col. William Grayson Chapter, Col. James Wood II Chapter, Sgt. Maj. John Champe Chapter, along with National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) chapters, including wreath-laying ceremony co-hosts, the Kate Waller Barrett Chapter, NSDAR; along with John Alexander Chapter, NSDAR; and the Dr. Elisha Dick Chapter, NSDAR, and members of local V.S.C.A.R. societies.

          Marching at the 2025 George Washington Birthday ParadeSAR captured two first place parade awards in Honor Guards and Color Guards, and the Spirit of George Washington competition. In addition, the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line won 1st place the Historical Units category with the SAR garnering second place. First-time parade participants, floatmaster Warner Workman (Sgt. Maj. John Champe Chapter) and Greg Hall (Col. William Grayson Chapter), were presented with the John C. Evans Medal by the George Washington Chapter, Virginia SAR.  Compatriot Paul McComb (pictured below) was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation as the 2024 Northern Region Colorguardsman of the Year Award.

          Commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan 

          SOUTH BOSTON, Va.  (Feb. 15, 2025)The George Mason Chapter of the Virginia

          SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – Feb. 15, 2025 – Due to inclement weather, George Washington Chapter compatriot Lorance "Larry" Lisle adorned colonial attire to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony, held indoors at The Prizery. The event commemorated the 244th anniversary of the Crossing of the Dan, in collaboration with the Halifax County VA Historical Society and the Dan River Chapter, Virginia Society, SAR.

          Commemorating the 244th Crossing of the Dan marks the anniversary of the historical event that occurred on February 14, 1781. During the American Revolutionary War, General Nathanael Greene's Continental Army crossed the Dan River near South Boston, Va., in a significant strategic maneuver against British forces.

          Compatriot Lisle, an active SAR member and Patriot Medal awardee, residing in North Carolina. He served as chapter president in 1986 and as the Virginia SAR president from 1996 to 1997. Lisle is descended from 11 patriots through his original and supplemental applications, including Major Charles Noël Romand de Lisle, who served as a major of artillery forces under the command of Charles Henri d'Estaing.
