2025 February 15 ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Feb. 15, 2025)—A joint SAR–DAR wreath laying ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House Burial Ground, following by the 2025 George Washington Birthday Parade, held in downtown Alexandria.

2025 February 15 SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (Feb. 15, 2025)—The George Mason Chapter of the Virginia SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – Feb. 15, 2025 – Due to inclement weather, George Washington Chapter compatriot Lorance "Larry" Lisle adorned colonial attire to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony, held indoors at The Prizery. The event commemorated the 244th anniversary of the Crossing of the Dan, in collaboration with the Halifax County VA Historical Society and the Dan River Chapter, Virginia Society, SAR. Commemorating the 244th Crossing of the Dan marks the anniversary of the historical event that occurred on February 14, 1781. During the American Revolutionary War, General Nathanael Greene's Continental Army crossed the Dan River near South Boston, Va., in a significant strategic maneuver against British forces. Compatriot Lisle, an active SAR member and Patriot Medal awardee, residing in North Carolina. He served as chapter president in 1986 and as the Virginia SAR president from 1996 to 1997. Lisle is descended from 11 patriots through his original and supplemental applications, including Major Charles Noël Romand de Lisle, who served as a major of artillery forces under the command of Charles Henri d'Estaing. |
