 2024 Spring Fundraiser
for the Chapter Endowment Fund

The George Washington Chapter's Board of Managers express sincere thanks to the many members
who made the great leap forward in 2023 to help formally launch the Chapter's Endowment Fund. Nearly $45,000 was raised and added to previous funds set aside to support the Chapter's various programs. Not operating expenses, programs which include youth scholarships, Public Safety recognition awards, recognition and support of U. S. veterans, America's 250 years Anniversary commemoration events, and so on.

We still have a few weeks left before summer as we launch the 2024 Spring Fundraiser which advances the mission to secure essential financial backing to increase the Endowment Fund balance, so that the Chapter may annually support and expand its programs for years to come.

One of the programs that we wish to further enhance is recognition and support of living local veterans and local veterans’ families. We are working out the details of how we can simply best honor local vets as early as this year but one of the particulars that we know we will need is funding. The more funding we raise with this 2024 Spring Fundraiser campaign the greater the impact we can make for vets, as well as for the Chapter's other programs. One suggestion has been that we allocate up to 10% of the 2024 Spring Fundraiser toward this new veterans recognition and assistance initiative. That could mean $1,000 for every $10,000 raised in this campaign!

As previously stated above, the GW SAR Board of Managers sends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to last spring’s successful Endowment Fund fundraiser. If you donated last year, won’t you consider matching last year’s amount and, hopefully, add a little extra this year to provide even greater patronage? Of course, new contributors to the Spring Fundraiser are sought as well to help support all the Chapter programs, for vets, student scholarships, public safety and heroism, grave marking and the like!

THE FACTS
It is essential to the SAR and our Chapter that we support our Mission. The promotion of historical, patriotic, educational and outreach activities are our reason for being.

  • It has been difficult, to date sometimes impossible, to fund core activities to the extent that we would hope.
  • In a move to ensure annual revenue for the core programs, the Chapter's Board of Managers created a permanent Outreach and Education Endowment Fund in 2023 to support: youth activities, scouting, JROTC, patriot grave marking, public service recognition, America’s 250th anniversary, color guard, veterans and the like.
  • The Fund is designed to provide support indefinitely: Only up to 5% of the Fund may be withdrawn for program expenses per year as directed by the Board of Managers.
  • We need to grow the Endowment Fund in order for it to provide a level of annual support that these programs and their beneficiaries deserve. This is why we are producing this 2024 Spring Fundraiser.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Endowment Fund beneficiaries include veterans and active military, students who win annual history essay contest scholarships sponsored by and paid through the Chapter, scholarships also presented to annual history oration contest winners, outstanding JROTC cadet achievement awards, certificates and medals to our local law enforcement, emergency medical and firefighting and other heroes who have unselfishly gone Above and Beyond the Call of Duty for others.
